The new update, version 2.0, is around the corner. We are very excited about this update. The main focus of this update is to improve usability. The app includes a general description, as an information page, about the app's design structure and the major features it provides. The following is the information.
Welcome to the TapMyNotes app. This app provides an innovative way to create notes with taps on your iOS device.
Life is filled with events, activities, experiences and special moments that are of value, purpose and meaning to you and are therefore worth keeping track of and writing down notes about. When you recall your past, in the absence of any record or notes, can you still remember with accuracy and vividness the 5W's (who, what, when, where, why) of a specific moment?
TapMyNotes app has been designed to help you do exactly that. With the convenience of a mobile device, you can use the app to create valuable notes corresponding to exact times, locations, and notes describing the exact events you wish to record.

App Basics
(more...)The app is built on an open framework. As a user, you create notes based on your interests. Those interests are defined in a broad range of categories as "tap entities", and within a tap entity, a list of specific interests is defined as "tap items". You will tap on those tap items to create "taps".
When a tap is made, a date and time stamp are recorded for the tap. With user permission, a GPS location will be recorded for the tap as well. These two pieces of information are created automatically.
After a tap is created, you may type a brief text description of the tap.
Time, Location, and Note (a text note) - which we call When, Where, and What - are the three basic pieces of information about each tap.

Privacy
(more...)Your privacy is very important to us. All the data collected and used in the app is strictly within Apple's privacy framework and guidelines.
When any private information is collected, you have the choice to allow or disallow its collection. You can decide to have (or not have) the location feature for each tap entity. For example, you can set the recording location on or off for your tap group named "Outdoors".
If a tap group has location recording turned on, when the app enters the tap screen for the first time, you will be prompted with a message to explain the location privacy setting. You will be presented the choice whether the app can record your locations.
Another place to change the location recording setting is in the app settings > Location. It shows your app's current settings, and allows you to enable or disable the app's location recording ability.
The app makes use of the location recording feature to provide the user with location-related rich information. This feature is in compliance with Apple's Privacy Framework and Guidelines. The app shows the transparency of this setting with a clear explanations and allows the user to change the setting at any time.
Another privacy-related issue is where data is saved and who can access it. For the current version, all the data is saved within the app on your device. They are not saved in or transferred to any other locations. Therefore, no other person or party can access or obtain the data. You solely own and use the data, just like you own your iOS device.

Main Screens
(more...)At the app's entry screen, the app has three main screens: Tap, Edit, and Export. They are accessible from the tab bar at the bottom.
The first main screen is Tap. This is the place where you make a tap. From a list of tap entities, select the one you are interested in, then find a specific tap item, and tap on it. The final step is to add your notes. These steps will complete your tap record.
Keep in mind that the time and place where you make a tap is very important (if location is enabled). They are recorded automatically and can not be changed. The text description of the tap is also important, and this adds more detailed information about the tap. You can add or edit the tap description at any time afterwards.
The second main screen is Edit. You can edit tap entities, tap items, and taps. For the first two, you can add more, delete, or change their names, notes, and related property settings. For taps, you can only change their description. Time and location information are not subject to change. They are set at the time and place where the tap is made.
When you launch the app for the first time, you may see a list of tap entities and each entity with several tap items ready for use. These are only template guidelines to get you started. For many users, you can use the Edit screen to make changes to fit your interests at any time.
The last main screen is for export. All or some of your data can be exported to various formats for external use.

Time and Date
(more...)The first important piece of information the app records is time, including the date. It will be automatically recorded when you tap on a tap item. Each tap has a time property value.
Time by itself does not have any location information. Normally, time will be displayed as a local time based on where your iOS device is. This brings up an issue if you travel. When you view your past taps, you may see those tap times are actually times in your current time zone. This is the case of the app before version 2.0.
From version 2.0, the app will have a feature to record a tap's time zone information. With this piece of information, you will be able to see your past tap times in their local time at just the time when you made those taps, even when reviewing previous taps in a different location and time zone. This is an improved feature for your future review of past taps, allowing you to recall your past wonderful moments.
There are many other time-related features. For example, the app is able to show the duration of time from a past tap to your current time. The duration display is a simple and easy to read text display. Depending on the length, the most significant duration units are displayed, like years, months, days, hours, etc., while the least significant unit values may be ignored, such as seconds, if the duration is in days or more.
Another user-friendly feature of the app is that in some places, not only are the time and date displayed as in a tap's location time, but also the day of the week. We think that users will appreciate our effort to provide useful information as much as possible.
Keep in mind that the tap's time is not editable. That means you can not change the time for a tap afterwards. The time is recorded at the moment when the tap was made. Therefore, you have to make a tap at the time when you want to make a note.

Location
(more...)Recording a location for a tap is another very important feature of this app. With your permission to enable recording location, a piece of GPS coordinate information is recorded and saved as a property value for a tap.
We strongly recommend you enable this feature for your important tap entities. With location information, we try to provide rich location-related information and features as much as possible. For example, you can view your past taps on a map view. With map view, not only can you visually see where you were, but you also get a route on how to get there. You will see the distance from a tap to your current location as well as altitude changes. You will see an address or area name based on your GPS location. There will be many more location features in future updates.
Just like time, most of us often do not remember when past events or activities occurred. Or we may have difficulty remember our location at these events or activities. This app can assist you in recording locations with an accuracy of a few meters.
Enabling the location setting will add great value for you at very little cost. It uses some battery power because the process turns on some hardware and sensor chips to perform complicated calculations. Therefore, we have tried to bring in this feature in the most efficient way.
The location service will only be turned on when you open the tap view, where a list of tap items is displayed ready for you to tap. The service will be turned off when you close the view. We believe that this is the best way to bring you value and preserve the life of your device's battery.
With this practice, at the initial start time when you open the tap view, the location service may need some time to find GPS satellites, calibrate, for the location accuracy to stabilize. The GPS accuracy level in this app is set to the highest level of your device's capability. The higher the accuracy, the more time is required. Normally, it takes several or tens of seconds, and sometimes more than a minute. Therefore, it recommended not rush to make taps when you enter the tap view.
In the tap view, there are several places you can see location changes. One is the info button on a tap item, and another is the location button on the bottom left toolbar. Watch the changes become minimal, and then you can make your tap.
The location feature of the app is based on Apple's location framework. We did have some experience with map view or geo-coding services for obtaining a place name that was not always up to date. As a result, in those cases, the information may not be correct. Users should use location information with caution about its incorrectness.
Keep in mind that, in most cases, the location information is available and accurate, even in a remote area where no cell or data service is available. However, there are many other factors that affect its availability and accuracy. For example, if you have to turn on airplane mode or have to turn off location on your device, or if there is no GPS satellite signal available when you are in a sealed environment or very restricted places, location information may not be available.
Location information is set at the time when a tap is made. It is not editable afterwards. Therefore, always remember to make a tap at the right time and the right place. If you miss it, you just can't make it up.
As described above, this app is based on an open structure, and users can define their interests as in tap entities. Depending on users' choices, some tap entities may not be location-relevent. Therefore, when defining tap entities, users have the choice to turn the location recording setting on or off. If the location recording is off. Taps on tap items defined in the tap entity will not have location information, and they will not see location information in those tap views. This may be users' preferred way of not seeing unrelated information in a tap view.
Furthermore, users can temporarily turn the location recording setting on or off. When it is off, the next taps will not record location information. When it is on, the next taps will continue to record location information.

Tap Note
(more...)A tap note is a property value of a tap. It is a brief text in your words to describe your tap. It is strongly recommended to type in relevant text information to describe your tap, for example, what happened, who you were with, your thoughts or emotions at the time, important data, and so on.
The Tap note is the only information you can edit or change afterwards. It is better to type in some text as soon as you make a tap. Our memories are short-lived. When you make a tap, you know what is important. Type in your words that you had at that moment so that the tap has relevant context-description information.
After using the app for a while, you will find that text notes are another very important part of your taps. When you have several tens or hundreds of taps with empty notes, you will realize that it is hard to recall the nature of each tap. Without text information, it is also very difficult to find the taps you are looking for. With text hints in your tap note, you will find that it is much easier to find your past taps with the search feature in this app.
There are times when you may hardly have time to type in a tap note. We have added some features to assist you. The first feature is to access your last tap note from the tap view. Just swipe a tap item from the right edge to left. Two actions are visible: one is the "Last tap note".
The second one is to let you predefine a tap note, which is called a default-tap-note. This pre-defined tap note is a property for a tap item. When you make a tap on that tap item, the default tap note becomes the tap note on the next tap. You have plenty of time to prepare a default tap note with some key words well before your taps.
Another benefit of the default tap note is that it allows you to use some key words consistently in your tap notes, avoiding misspelt words, and making it easier to search for.
Your past tap notes may be good candidates as default tap notes. We provide a quick way to copy a tap note to the default tap note. When you edit or browse your past notes, you will see a button on the right-top side of the note. Tap on the button. A prompt message will confirm if you want to make the current tap note the default tap note.
Remember, time and location information are valuable in helping you to recall your past. Tap's text note will tell you what happened in your words and bring your memory back. You can also use text notes to record important information about your work, career changes, health issues, financial or property status, even serial numbers or authentication settings. It will be up to your imagination to add your creative tap notes. All those hints might be the key text to help you find what you want from the past taps when you do a text search. Bring your exact time and location information right in front of you.
