Version 2.4.0 Released

We're pleased to bring you TapMyNotes 2.4.0, with improved stability, smarter search, and a more intuitive experience for recording and preserving life's moments.

Important: This update requires iOS 15.4 or later.

Stability & Reliability

  • Fewer crashes – Fixed several rare crash scenarios involving location services, background transitions, and database loading, making TapMyNotes more reliable.
  • Smoother background transitions – Switching the app to the background and back to the foreground is now more reliable, with fewer interruptions.
  • Improved data loading – Database operations are now handled more safely, reducing unexpected crashes during app launch and data loading.

Smarter & Faster Search

  • New Search help section – A dedicated "Search" guide is now included in the help documentation, explaining how to use cascading search across Tap Entities, Tap Items, and Taps.
  • Optimized search performance – Search now waits briefly while you type, reducing unnecessary processing and making the search experience smoother and more responsive.
  • Improved search bar layout – On iOS 15 and later, the search controller no longer blocks the top menus. The search bar also returns to its normal size after pressing the Search key.

Improved Moment Recording Experience

  • Color-coded note headers – In the note editing view, "Tap Note" (the note attached to a past tap) now has a blue header, while "Default Tap Note" (a pre-defined template for future taps) uses an orange header. This visual distinction makes it easier to tell which note you're editing.
  • "Default Tap Note" moved to the context menu – Previously, "Default Tap Note" appeared as the first left-swipe action, placed right next to "Latest Tap Note." To reduce accidental edits, it has been moved to the long-press context menu. It remains easily accessible while being less likely to be selected by mistake.

If you're unsure how to use these gestures, the help documentation in the App includes screenshots to guide you.

Additional Enhancements

  • Launch progress indicator – TapMyNotes now displays a full-screen progress indicator with a percentage and a brief status message during startup. This provides immediate feedback when startup tasks take longer than usual, so you can see that the app is working and track its progress.

While startup is currently fast, this progress view also provides a foundation for future releases in which additional startup tasks may need to be completed before the main view is ready.
  • "Replace First Line" in note editor – A new context menu option lets you quickly replace the first line of a note with text from the clipboard, making it easier to update templates or recurring entries.
  • Improved help document view titles – Information and drill-down views now display clearer titles, such as "Info • Search", making it easier to identify the help section you're viewing.
